A GOOD REASON TO START YOUR SAILING HOLIDAY STARTING FROM OUR BASE IN MARINA DI PROCIDA
The island of Procida, the smallest of the Neapolitan islands, the pearl of the Flegrean islands. Procida differs from the nearby islands of Ischia and Capri, not only for being the closest to Naples, but also for her tradition, her history and her culture. In 2022 Procida was elected Italian Capital of Culture 2022 with the slogan: "the culture does not isolate". For the first time, an island has won the coveted award.
Procida, not only has the charm of the seaside village, but has always lived with the sea and for the sea, as evidenced by the characteristic colored houses that are reflected in the sea… the legend wants that their cheerful and varied color is useful to sailors and fishermen to recognize their homes when they are at sea. The fantastic Arabic-style architecture of Procida has been the backdrop for numerous films over the years. We can remember : Il Postino by Massimo Troisi, The talent of mr. Ripley with Matt Damon, Francesco and Nunziata by Lina Wertmuller with Sofia Loren, just to name a few. Many other personalities and artists who frequent the island, more we mention Susanne Drewes who we also thank for her kind photographic support.
The sea of the islands of Procida, Vivara and Ischia is protected by the marine area: "The Park of Neptune" which has the main purpose of defending one of the most important plants of the marine ecosystem: Poseidonia, very common in these sea beds. The island more than visited, deserves to be experienced and known in its naturalness, including walks overlooking the sea, visits to historical and cultural places and excursions by sea, preferring sailing boats for a less polluting impact thus having the opportunity to grasp every detail and beauty of its coast. There are numerous places to visit and get to know, we want to point out just a couple:
-
Palazzo D'Avalos - Procida - Terra Murata
the fascinating and evocative former prison, disused and abandoned for some time, formerly Palazzo D'Avalos since 1500, perfectly set in the village of Terra Murata, the oldest part of the island overlooking the sea, which for centuries has guaranteed the security from numerous pirate attacks.
- Marina Corricella - Procida
The colorful village of Marina Corricella, an enchanted fishing little harbour by now is the symbol all over the world of Procida, the small island in the Gulf of Naples. With its pastel-colored houses, perched on each other, the fishing boats, the nets on the quays, the scent of fresh fish, the seagulls familiarizing themselves with cats, the typical stairways, the balconies with geraniums, the typical restaurants. Thanks to this unique scenario, Corricella was already consecrated all over the world by Apple and Microsoft in 2015. The spectacular image of marina Corricella was used to highlight the color rendering of the Iphone 6S screens. Of course, today, with the election of Procida as Capital of Culture 2022, its notoriety in the mass media around the world has reached unexpected but well-deserved heights.
Among the most important tourism magazines The National Geographic, has placed Procida among the 25 best destinations in the world to visit in 2022. The island of the Gulf of Naples is the only Italian destination of 2022, but Elsa Morante in 1957 already wrote a of his masterpieces setting it in Procida: "The island of Arturo". One verse reads: “…. Ah, I wouldn't ask to be a seagull or a dolphin; I would be content with being a redfish - which is the ugliest fish in the sea - just to find myself there, joking in that water ".
