MARATEA

Departing from Procida - Naples, those who opt for the rental of a sailboat for two weeks can embark on a sailing holiday to Cilento. About 230 miles, uncrowded route and with the right sequence of navigations and ports. Many bays, shelters and centers to visit, and especially in Cilento many places that, even in August, allow you to find yourself alone in the bay. Not long, safe navigation, which sees the following of three gulfs: the gulf of Naples, the gulf of Salerno, the gulf of Policastro. Between Capri and Salerno (Amalfi coast), the coast is dominated everywhere by promontories, safe even at a short distance from the land. The navigation is pleasant especially with winds from the W, but it becomes dangerous with winds coming from the SE, S, and SW.

Gulf of Naples, Gulf of Salerno

The Gulf of Salerno has only two small ports Amalfi and Cetara, and a large commercial port in Salerno, which closes the Gulf of the same name. Large boats, yachts and sailboats can also moor in Marina di Arechi, after the port of Salerno proceeding southwards.

Gulf of Policastro

SE of Salerno, the low and sandy coast is of no interest up to Agropoli, a safe harbor and village not to be missed. Continuing the sailing holiday towards the S, the only very dangerous point is Punta Licosa, whose rocky shoals extend for about 2 miles from the ground towards W. Pay attention and sail only after having consulted the detailed nautical charts. Continuing the route towards the S, the Ogliastro inlet deserves a stop, a few miles from Acciaroli, a very characteristic village.

The approach requires attention from all boats, yachts and sailboats, given the presence of rocky shoals at the entrance to the port of Acciaroli. Palinuro with its caves, the Natural Arch, the Buon Dormire bay and the islet of Coniglio are also a must. No less interesting Marina di Camerota, Baia degli Infreschi, the coast of the Gulf of Policastro that accompanies us with its beauty up to Scario and Maratea.

 PROCIDA

procida corricella
marine park procida

Procida is the smallest of the Partenopean islands and is the closest to Napoli, but fortunately the least frequented by luxusurians and unrestrained tourists.

With its almost intact natural beauties, the island of Procida proves to be the ideal place for a beach holiday. Wide beaches and numerous bays and coves of the island of Procida, the coves scattered along the coast of Procida offer shelter from any type of wind from a nautical point of view. Among the topten finalist candidate cities, Procida was elected ITALIAN CAPITAL OF CULTURE 2022.

PROCIDA HARBOURS

Procida island has 3 small ports: MARINA GRANDE, MARINA CORRICELLA and MARINA CHIAIOLELLA.
MARINA GRANDE is the main docking of the Procida island. And it is the sea port for ferries and hydrofoils which connect Procida to Pozzuoli, Napoli and Ischia.
Nearby is Marina di Procida, the new touristic harbour endowed with mooring, electricity, water and showers. Here the ProgettOceano has its nautical base. Really, exactly the Marina di Procida is the bareboats departure point or embarkation on her sailboats and sail yacht to rent for a week end cruises or weekly sailing holidays or more weeks charter

MARINA CORRICELLA, a wonderfull island whithin the island, the typical fishing village, forbidden to cars and scooters traffic. It's in the southern part of Procida island. And it is reserved to boats for fishing, but practicable entering the 1st entrance - Punta dei Monaci side- you can reach the shore by tenders. Paying attencion to the shallow water.

MARINA CHIAIOLELLA, is a small harbour both for tourism and fishing. You can find: fuel station, private ponts, mooring, electricity, water and showers.
It's located in the south of Procida island and the entrance to the harbour is not easy with strong SE wind.

PROCIDA ANCHORAGES

The roadstead of Chiaia is a huge bay in the south, close to the harbour of Corricella and offers the best anchorage of the Procida isle, particularly at night.
It's sheltered from the winds of the 3rd and 4th quadrant and offers a beautifull view with sandy shallow water rich in poseidonia.
Unlike the other Procida inlets, the Carbogno doesn't offer a safe enchorage because of its rocky and deep waters. At present, it is used as ichthyc rearing with big cages signalled by light (boe).

In any case, it's useful to look it up in the Map of Regno di Nettuno if you want sail and anchor respecting the limits of the natural park which embrace Procida, Vivara and Ischia.

Warnings: PUNTA SERRA a rocky tongue extending for 200 mt. from the mountains, coverd with shools. REEFS at Punta Cottimo and Punta Lingua.

ISCHIA

ischia sail yacht charter

One mile from Procida and from our base, Ischia, the Green island is famous for its thermal baths and it's a rather big island, quiet and relaxing, a good place for summer holidays lovers. Ischia island has many happy aspects to wrap your sailing holidays.

Ports and Anchorages of ISCHIA:

Ports: ISCHIA PORTO - ISCHIA CASAMICCIOLA – ISCHIA FORIO – ISCHIA S. ANGELO

ISCHIA PORTO

Is a natural bay with wharfs and completely sheltered from any wind but at the same time busy from sailboats, yacht, super yacht and ferries for sail around Ischia e Procida. Here the backwash caused by the traffic of ferries which connect Ischia Porto to Pozzuoli and Napoli and with Procida is the only fault.
The sailboat and yacht transit is hard because of the floating structures of the Marina di Ischia, located to the left since crowded. Petrol pump which is on the right, grants the fuel.
You can see landing wharfs that are less crowded.Free mooring is forbidden.

ISCHIA CASAMICCIOLA

is a commercial harbour that connects Ischia with Pozzuoli, Napoli and Procida. And a touristic harbour too reserved to the sail yacht, sailboats, boats and super yacht. for charter sailboats: pay attention to the sandy shallow waters just in the centre of the Ischia Casamicciola harbour, and to the ferrie and hydrofoils traffic that connects with Napoli, Pozzuoli and Procida. Mooring is granted at the dock if you contact the Marina of Cala degli Aragonesi from the municipal landing wharfs and the Marina located on the right, just entering the port.Be careful to the winds coming from the 1st quadrant.

ISCHIA FORIO

To all boats, all sailboats and yacht take care entering the harbour because of the several outcropping rocks some of which not signalled along the entrance in coming into line with Punta Imperatore. Forio is a nice harbour for all boats, yacht anche sailing boats.

ISCHIA SANT'ANGELO

S. Angelo is an exclusive place, considered the flagship of the Ischia island. Very typical harbour but there are very few berths. Despite its small harbour, you can see a wide bay on the south-side, an ideal place to spend one night in the roadstead with good weather conditions. There a sandy bottom and no dangers. Don't miss the thermal beach where you can see the "fumarole".

Don't forget: Santangelo bay, Sorgeto with its natural water springs, S. Francesco, Sammontana, Castello Aragonese bay and Cartaromana.

Warnings: Ischia Forio with shoals and reefs along the west-side, stretching up to 500 mt. from the Ischia coast .

CAPRI ISLAND

capri charter boat

Capri, surely is the best known of the Partenopean islands, elegant and refined one. Breathtaking views from the sea, and unique glimpses also from land. Do not miss the walks through the steps full of history that come from the square of Capri to the sea. . . in Marina Grande on one side, in Marina piccola on the other. . .

Ports and anchorages of the island of Capri

Port of Capri

Marina Grande, is divided into three areas: the Commercial Port of Capri (eastern side), the Tourist Port of Marina di Capri and the Darsena (western side). Inside the marina of Capri is possible the mooring place both on the dock and on the floats for all boats, super yachts and sailboats. The dock is reserved for big boats and super yacht. So normally you can moor on float docks if you charter a sailboat. the Marina di Capri offers light and water mooring service and showers. The fuel service is ensured by the AGIP distributor inside the harbous of Capri.

The bay outside Marina Grande is not recommended due to the enormous commercial traffic with Capri island.

Among our favorite bays in Capri, Marina Piccola is certainly included. Completely open to the SOUTH, more than a marina it is a bay where is possible a landing just for a boat'stender stopover. It is good to know that the seabed, mixed between sand and poseidona, rises gently from 70 meters up to 10 meters. To all yacht and sailboats, sail yacht and charter boat, we recommend to anchor in the innermost part entering the bay on the left side. Anchorages in all other bays are not recommended, due to the high and rocky bottoms.

POSITANO & "LI GALLI"

positano bareboat

Positano is a famous centre along the Amalfi coast and after Amalfi is surely one of the most visited ones. You can recogniz Positano from the sea by approaching with the sailboat or yacht, due to the large traffic of hydrofoils and fast boats that connect Positano with Amalfi, Sorrento, Capri and Naples. You can see Positano from the sea, a wonderful landscape with its small coloured houses, alleys and stairs leading from the sea up to the hill. in Positano there are arcades, paths and a lot of boutiques which have made Positano famous for its clothes as MODA POSITANO.

In Positano there is no harbour so the only way to visit Positano is to moor your sailboat in front to the town and reach the land by tender or make use of the mooring sailboat service and taxi. It's forbidden to moor your sailboat along the route of the hydrofoils.

Three miles from Positano, along the coast, rise two small islands, "li Galli" or Sirenuse, a small arcipelago nowdays a park made of 3 small islands: The Gallo Lungo, the rotonda and the Castelluccia, one thought to be the house of mermaids. Not far away from Positano, you have the De Filippo small island, where Eduardo used to retire to write his comedies. you can reach the inlet just with your yacht

AMALFI

rent a boat amalfi

Half way between Naples and Salerno, Amalfi is an ancient seaside village which still keeps its beauty of Republic Marinara. Who sail with his yacht or sailboat can see Amalfi, because it's situated on a hill goes down to the sea. One of the main monument of Amalfi is the Dome of S. Andrea. It's easy to get to Amalfi from the sea with super yacht, yachr or sailboat , both in the day and at night, but pay attention to fishing equipment not lit near the coast. The SE wind may be dangerous entering the harbour to all boats. Inside the port which is cosy, you are offered mooring, electricity and water.

The dock which arrives at the beach is particularly fair at night, in fact while walking along the Amalfi harbour, you can see the limpidity of the water and the light pebbles of the shore.
Amalfi town is so elegant and it is a small centre to walk. As you leave the main street you can find out alleys, and stairs leading to terraces from where you enjoy a breathtaking view.

Amalfi is a good starting point take up an excursion by bus to Vietri, famous for its pottery, and Maiori and Ravello a well known centre.
In your sailing cruise don't miss Conca dei Marini, where it's possible to have a swim and in a few minutes you get to Emerald Grotto, so called for the color of its water, where you can see a wonderful submerged crib made of pottery.

AGROPOLI

agropoli and amalfi sail yacht charter

Agropoli closes the Gulf of Salerno on its SE side. Originally a medieval village, Agropoli is perched on a small rocky promontory around which the modern neighborhoods of the town have developed. Very nice to visit, the historic center of Agropoli ensures a walk and a truly characteristic evening, among the alleys and the slopes of the medieval village. Even the new part of the Agropoli town deserves a long walk. The port of Agropoli is a good shelter from all winds, especially with winds becoming from SW.for all boats, yacht and sailboats.

Inside the Agropoli port, there are numerous floating docks where you can moor your sailboat or yacht.  All of them inside the Agropoli harbour provide mooring, electricity and water. Refueling is possible for all yachts and sailboats, guaranteed by the IP distributor, located at the root of the breakwaves. Entering the harbour you will find it at the end on the right side. Agropoli is a pleasant stopover for all skipper and can also serve as a logistical stopover for an archaeological visit to the ruins of Paestum and its notorious Temple of Athena, only 9 km away towards N from Agropoli.

PUNTA LICOSA & ACCIAROLI

cilento sail week charter

Sailing or moving your yacht towards S, just left the harbour of Agropoli, we head towards Punta Licosa. We immediately cross the harbour of S. Marco di Castellabate, about 5 miles to the SSW of Agropoli. It is a small center concentrated on top of a hill. The harbour offers shelter especially to fishing boats. At 2.5 miles we cross Punta Licosa and all its beautiful coast, with its pine forest that reaches the sea and with its dangerous rocky shoals that go beyond 2 miles from the coast. Punta Licosa, low and prominent, extends out to sea with the homonymous islet, low and rocky, topped by a lighthouse. The passage for the boats and sailboats or yachts is not safe, the shallows not reported. fron here starts the Cilento coats.

All boats, but especially the sailboats have to do a wide tour around Punta Licosa to double the cape, since the rocky shallows covered by 3 meters of water stretching up to 1 mile from the coast, proceeding on the SSW route.
The depth increases very very gradually. So pay close attention. Doubled Punta Licosa, located 2 miles SE from it, the inlet of Ogliastra is characterized by a small seaside resort, bordered by a long beach. Here all boats, sailboats and yachts will find a pleasant anchorage sheltered with winds between NNW and E. Just 5 miles from Ogliastro and 7.5 miles from Punta Licosa, sailing towards SE opens:

Acciaroli

It is a small village of Cilento coast, always crowded. The marina is certainly a nice and fairly peaceful harbour for all sailboat and yacht. It is possible anchoring in the bay in front of the beach before entering the harbour. Take care TO THE BOTTOMS, which alternate in sandy and rocky stretches. In port of Acciaroli the supply of fuel is guaranteed by the AGIP distributor.

DANGERS : we mention the shallow of Vecchia and the shallow of the General, rich in outcrops and semi-updated just a few meters from the end of the dock with direction 155°. It is advisable coming from S you will have to keep almost a mile off. To enter the port, from whichever direction you are coming from, keeping very far off and heading towards the port entrance only when it is 90 °. The end of the dock is surmounted by a white statue of the Madonna, which is a good reference point.

For the boats  who navigate by night across theCilento, the approach must be made keeping in the white sector of the external dock, to avoid the shallows and the dangers described, signaled and limited by the red sector of the same lighthouse, and by that of the lighthouse located on the beach ahead 400 meters towards E

PALINURO & MARINA DI CAMEROTA

cilento sail yacht charter

Your sailing holidays for 2 week charter in Cilento coast, and moving your boat or yacht towards S, you can arrive to Capo Palinuro, high overlooking the sea, it constitutes the best visible point of all Cilento coast. Palinuro is surmounted by two white buildings - the lighthouse and the tower of the old traffic light - very evident. Next to the lighthouse you will also notice a metal antenna.

Palinuro harbour, located on the N side of the cape itself, is sheltered in a inlet surrounded by hills and bordered to the S by a small beach of light sand. The port of Palinuro is sheltered by almost all winds, only those coming from NW and NE can become annoying. This stopover is pleasant and peaceful for all baots, sailboats and yachts. The town of Palinuro is far about 1 km from the harbour. The country-harbour connection is ensured by the shuttle service.

Anchors south of Capo Palinuro

All the beauty of Capo Palinuro seems to concentrate on the S side. Anchoragess and bays of great charm where all boats, yachts and sailboats can relax. Leaving the port of Palinuro and going south, it is just a beautiful sequence of coves and caves of unspoiled beauty. And this up to the rabbit island, which delimits the cove of buondormire and a little further south, the natural arch of Palinuro.the Cilento coast is all to see. We recommend a great day at anchor in one of these bays surrounded by amazing nature. The seabed is safe below the coast, while in the bays they degrade gently. the skipper of sailboat will be able to anchoring easily on 5 - 7 meters of water on backdrops of clear sand.

MARINA DI CAMEROTA

Not far from the beach of the natural arch of Palinuro, stands out Marina di Camerota, a picturesque village flanked by a well-sheltered harbor. This Cilento area is surrounded by beautiful beaches and white sand, which make the colors of the Cilento seabed even more beautiful. in Marina di Camerota the environment is pleasant and welcoming. The port of marina di Camerota is a large port is served by floating pontes with mooring, light, water, showers. It is well worth stopping here during your sailing holidays.

Marina di Camerota DANGERS

Pay attention to a sandy shoal in the center of the entrance of the port of Marina di Camerota, probably not indicated but recognizable by the light of the water. for all boats, yachts but mainly for sailboats the entry into the port of Marina di Camerota will take place by tightening on the left, since the sanding tends towards the breakwater pier. It is also possible to anchor the sailboat on a sandy bottom in 5 meters of water, right in the bend in front of the port.
Instead, note the presence of cages for breeding fish, located off the coast but right at the port.

Not to be missed: the inlets located immediately near the port of Marina di Camerota.
Porto Infreschi or Baia degli Infreschi, located N of Punta Iscoletti, which delimits the W end of Cilento and the starting point of the Gulf of Policastro. It is a magnificent bay, in a unique and wild setting, bordered by small beaches with clear bottoms, separated by rocky peaks that make Baia degli Infreschi one of the most beautiful anchorages on the coast. The bay is sheltered with winds from W and N, very exposed instead with SE winds. The depths, high at the entrance, regularly decrease towards the interior. They are not regular below the coast. The seabed is sandy with poseidonia.

SCARIO

rent a boat in cilento

Beyond Punta Iscoletti and Baia degli Infreschi, proceeding your charter towards S opens the western coast of the Gulf of Policastro. Beautiful views surrounded by the wild nature of the coast, which is practically deserted and which allows to all yachts and sailing boats and bareboat boat incomparable anchorages – only approching with maximum attention - and only in good weather - given the presence of rockly shallows and semi-surfacing rocks above all below coast. At the end of the inlet of the Gulf of Policastro, Scario, stands out for its beauty, a small but characteristic center, clearly of marine origin. It is most fascinating center of the Gulf of Policastro. From here you can also reach Padula for a visit to the famous Certosa di San Lorenzo.

MARATEA

sail yacht charter cilento

From the E side of the gulf of Policastro, and at the end of the gulf itself, we find Maratea, the main center of the coast and the last stopover point and last safe harbor for all boats , yacht, and sailbota who want to continue sailing towards S, to reach Eolian islands, the Sicily coast and Egadi islands. The coast that accompanies us out of the port of Maratea it is very beautiful, very indented given the presence of rocky cliffs that only in some places open giving breath to small and characteristic gray sand beaches. A very rich vegetation descends till the sea and numerous pine forests surround quiet and uncrowded bays. It is possible to anchor, the coast is safe and does not present difficulties.

The only danger

is the Secca della Giumenta, with only 1.30 meters of water covering a dangerous rocky ledge located 0.25 miles from the shore and 0.35 miles SE of the islet of San Ianni, in the immediate vicinity of the port of Maratea. Pay attention and consult the nautical charts. The same islet of San Ianni is a beautiful anchorage point, but take care during the approach.
The port of Maratea can only be recognized by approaching less than a mile away.

But for those coming from the open sea, they will be able to recognize the town of Maratea, about 500 meters above the port, dominated by a gigantic statue of the Redeemer, clear and 22 meters high, visible from all directions and illuminated, for those who sail by night.

The entrance to the port is narrow and the high wall of N dock hides the boats leaving, therefore proceed at limited speed. The docks are served by mooring, water and electricity. The town of Maratea, at the foot of the huge statue of the Redeemer, is definitely out of the way, but not for this it is to be missed. Full of alleys full of life and very characteristic, a concentration of narrow streets that intertwine with each other, make the visit to the village unique. The connection is ensured by a shuttle service.
